Wonderful traveling companion…helped tremendously in Florence, Rome, and Sorrento during our first trip to Italy (we are headed home tomorrow…sigh). Used on my iPhone and tablet Kindle App and it was invaluable…never steered us to a bad restaurant.

Great book for the places included, was invaluable on my recent trip. Should be clearer that it is not a guidebook for the whole of Italy though, it isa guide to the places Rick Steves thinks you should go, without a word on anywhere else.
The eating and sleeping listing also seemed to be aimed at an older richer crowd – younger people on a budget can save money and eat just as well by finding their own places to eat based on Rick’s advice in the book. All in all, a great resource and the tips in it saved me the price of the book 10 times over. 0

There are some good things about this guide, I suppose, but if you’re a traveler who likes to get off the beaten path this is not the guide for you. Tons of cities aren’t covered at all or have a brief recommendation that they simply be avoided. There’s hardly any information about the southern part of the country. If you’re just spending a couple of weeks in Venice, Florence, and Rome then you probably won’t notice, but if you plan to explore at all try a different guide. I do like the candid writing style and the strong opinions.
