Traveling with Baby — What We Learned from Our Baby’s First Flight
This is a part of my “traveling with babyâ€Â series to share our experience with you. We hope to encourage you to show your baby the world too. We’ve just returned from Baby Kaleya’s first first international trip, and I’m proud to report that Kaleya was a great flyer. Polar Bear Photos: Be transported to the Wild Edge of Manitoba
It has been our dream to visit the polar bears of Churchill, Manitoba for years. Long before we travelled for a living, we wanted to visit the Canadian North. I remember Christmas 2002, we thought we’d book a ticket to Hudson Bay to see what the Canadian Arctic was like. When we began to look at prices, we realized that this trip was out of our reach so … [Read More]
A Grand Canyon (Mis)Adventure: Disaster at Hance
Rafts float through the narrowest point on the Grand Canyon; Photograph by Danny Schmidt The moment I caught my first a glance of Hance, I regretted my decision to scout it. What I saw from that rocky promontory under the merciless June sun was less a rapid than a gnashing, boat-eating monster. Boulders … [Read More]

Video: Dolphin Watching in Maldives
From somewhere in the depths of the indigo water comes a splash and a squeal. A small fin pokes above the surface followed by the whip of a tail. It’s a dolphin. Just meters away from our traditional dhoni boat. Seconds later, it resurfaces. But this time it’s joined by another dolphin.. and another…and another… By now, there are a dozen or so dolphins surrounding us. I watch in awe as the dolphins dive in and out of the water in sync, swimming gracefully right alongside the bow of our boat… [Read More]
Luxury & Romance at Daytona Beach Shores Hotel and Spa
It was a rocky start to our Daytona Beach vacation as we booked a hotel near the Daytona Beach boardwalk and pier. Dave and I have learned that as we grow older, we have little patience for noise, crowds, and drunken twenty somethings having balcony parties on the beach. Can Daytona Beach appeal to couples traveling with no kids and a healthy bank account? We aimed to find … [Read More]

Scuba Diving in the Maldives
As we descend into the depths of the Indian Ocean, the strong waves and whipping winds are replaced by clear-as-glass water and a kaleidoscope of colors. Marine life of all sizes and characteristics surround us. My dive instructor and I slowly make our way through the sprawling coral gardens, amidst hundreds of different fishes and corals. Through my mask, it’s hard to see the excitement on my face underwater, but I’m shrieking like a child in a candy store. Swimming … [Read More]

Shorts for the Cooling Days of Fall
A couple years ago, my friend Kevin met me in Jackson Hole for a few days. He was wearing a wool Icebreaker t-shirt with an illustration of a fir tree on it. I saw a lot of that little line-drawn tree—his bags didn’t show up for days and he kept wearing what he’d worn on the plane. Amazingly, the tee never showed wear nor, from my distance, seemed to take on funk. That same kind of durability and all-day, every-day wearability also infuses Icebreaker’s Compass shorts, which I’ve been rocking all summer.  Not literally all summer… [Read More]
